Art Battle – International Live Painting Tournament

Art Battle – International Live Painting TournamentI have participated in multiple editions of Art Battle, an international live painting tournament hosted in cities across the world. In this format, artists are given 20 minutes to complete a full painting in front of a live audience — under lights, music, and the energy of the crowd.
The final vote is cast by the audience or judges, making the connection between artist, moment, and viewer the true center of the experience.
During these competitions, I reached the Final Round of Art Battle Montréal twice.
For me, this achievement was not just about competition, but about practicing a form of art that is immediate, raw, and alive — where the hand moves before the mind and emotion paints faster than thought.
Many of the works created in these performances were later sold at auction.
In Art Battle, there is no undoing — everything happens in the present.
The crowd breathes, the canvas vibrates, and the artist surrenders to the moment.
For me, the stage became a place where art was not only seen,
but lived.

Solo Exhibition _Casa Italia

Exhibition & Live Sand Painting Performance at the gallery of Casa Italia – Montreal, Canada
Year: 2023
Techniques: Expressive Painting, Live Glass Sand Painting
Description:
This solo exhibition showcased a collection of my expressive paintings at the historic Casa d’Italia gallery in Montreal.
Alongside the exhibition, I performed my signature Glass Sand Painting—a fleeting act that blends movement, light, and raw material.
The live performance evoked themes of creation, transformation, and cultural memory, dissolving the boundary between painting and performance art.

Gabour Visual Artist (Abolfazl Bayat) is an Iranian-Canadian multidisciplinary artist based in Montreal. He began drawing before he could speak, and with the support of his mother, he followed the path of art from early childhood. His professional career started at the age of 17 with illustration for children’s books and set design for the TV show “Amin & Mina,” which was broadcast by IRIB (Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting). At 19, he began teaching art at Tehran’s House of Animation and the Youth Cultural Center. He later taught design and animation at various cultural centers in Iran, including the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (Kanoon), Abdollah Alimorad’s animation studio, and the Bayat Brothers Cultural & Art Institute. After immigrating to Montreal, he continued teaching art to children in libraries and schools, including immigrant students at Saint Charles School. He holds a Diploma in Fine Arts, an Associate Degree in Animation, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Cinema Directing. Gabour is also the founder of the unique technique “Fixed Sand Painting on Glass,” which transforms ephemeral live sand performances into lasting physical paintings — a blend of form, color, motion, and light that has become his signature. In animation, Gabour has worked as a character designer, environment artist, and title sequence designer on various projects, including the series “The Adventures of the Goat and Kid,” which won the Best TV Production Award at the 2011 Kanoon Festival. This award was given for outstanding design of characters, environments, and titles. In 2021, Gabour created a digital art collection using only his smartphone and fingerprints, which he released as NFTs. His collection, “Animal World,” gained notable attention on the OpenSea platform when one of its pieces was purchased by international artist and collector Snoop Dogg (under the collector name Cosmo Medici). This support helped the collection become one of the top-selling NFT collections in October 2021.In the past two years, alongside his focus on live painting, public performances, and digital art, Gabour has also actively participated in the international Art Battle competition. He reached the finals in Montreal in 2023_2024.
